I have never recieved centrelink because my parents just earn above the cut off line. I had moved out of home and tried again for asistance but was declined because i was not kicked out of home or being abused so technically im still considered as my parents problem. Then i was told to prove i was independent so i got a job, started uni and saved 3 grand to be told i couldnt recieve any help as i now earn too much.

thankfully now i can get something back for paying tax and working my butt off

from memory it was youth allowance so I may be in for a win!

With text books costing over $300 a semster that will be a def win!

worked my arse off for the past 5 years when I finished school. Was working when at school too. Now I am a full time Uni student studying Law and I am unable to receive benifits becase Pom earns over $250 a week.

As a law student I am expected to do 48hrs of study per week. Also have the property to look after and to run around after Pom as he is totally undomesticated.

Not sure where I find the time to work.

I have been trying to fit everything in, studying (travelling to get there), working in between classes, the horses and then i might think about having some sleep after more study. Study is classed as a full-time job and then we have to work to afford everything.

you should get it then, but i would just check with centrelink to make sure first.

the government should reassess the cut off levels of the average income so more people can gain assistance.


the only set-back is the time is going to take to get here. people who recieve centrelink payments approved for bonuses will get theirs in march and the others will recieve it in April, wicked Birthday pressie for me

This is something that has really pissed me and my husband off, we missed out on teh $1000 bonus as we earned too much, however we know a family of 7 (2 parents 5 kids) who recieved $5000 and yet neither parent works, one is on disability and the other is claiming cares pension while workign full time (30hrs) for cash.
We were disgusted to hear that the parents took the money that they got simply for having the kids and spent it on themselves.
What the hell is wrong with people.
Once again we miss out on any government assistance, cos we earn too much, we pay taxes so that the others can benifit. When do we get a fair go?

the only plus we have as the working class citizens is that we are going places in life. We can support ourselves and not rely on the government to help. There are third generation unemployed people who will always be in the system purely because of their family history, a lot can not get jobs because they do not have the skills or experience let alone the refs to get a job.
No one will give them a fair go, don't get me wrong there are plenty out there who just don't want to work and expect that it is there god given right to work the system.
I think eventually the government will work out that it does need to look after the working class as we keep the money turning.

No offense to all the mum's and Dad's out there but I get quite disgruntled with all the baby bonuses and $1000 hand outs just for having a kid.
