Tyres wanted

Post by gizmo on Tue Jun 09, 2009 10:39 am

Hello. I need tyres for putting around trees we've planted. If you have some to get rid of, let me know and i will come and collect them. Prefer mt barker or strath area, but may go further.

Have you tried going down to your local tyre shops (eg Bob Jane, Beaurepair etc), they used to give away the used tyres as it saved them having to pay for disposal.

Yeah they have to pay $3 per tyre for disposal so are usually more than happy to pass them on. Just be aware you might get a lecture on how its illegal to use tyres blah blah

make sure you remove said tyres from trees before they get too big... Idiots who owned this place before us didn't and now the trees have belts.

dont use tyres ~ use tree surrounds `~pay the price!
tyres are diffcult to get rid of and illegal to transport without a permit!

I would love to use tree surrounds, but with 500 of the little things( well actually about 650 if you include last years)... just can afford to buy them, and then the dowell to make them stand up. The other problem is that the ponies would just squish them flat i think Sad I know tyres aren't ideal, but they do offer the trees a bit of protection..

and yeah i will remember to take them off when they start getting big enough... just the thought of having to cut them off is making me tired... i think i would have at least 3 years to wait though wouldn't I?

I have got some from a tyre place, but i know they cost money to dispose of them, so i thought if anyone else had any that they didn't want, i would take them off them and save them money, rather than save a big company money if you know what i mean Smile

yep see your dilema ~ just a future thought when you go to get rid of them in 2 or 3 years it could cost you more than you have in the bank??

If you go to the Hartley turn off, the old building on the corner is full of them !

After they have done their job as a tree guard, they make great arena fencing. At my old place I used to have them 2 & 3 high, filled with h.poo and pig face planted in them. It looked like a hedge.
