Royal Adelaide Show *GULP*
OK gang. I can't believe it is that time of year already but Entries are already out for this years Royal. I must confess after nothing short of a few dramas last year, of which I am still trying to recover, I wasn't too keen on it this year, but have been roped in.
So depsite protests, I am taking 2 - The Pooh (Archie) and Schnaps. Thankfully hubby is going to have the day off to look after Archie whilst I am in with the filly, so thats sorted.. Phew. Its a shame they don't allow you to wait in the main arena (to an extent) like they used to, so we can't cheer on our mates.
Anyway, enough of my rant, who is going and who is not?
For those who are thinking about it (and don't already have the entry forms) check out the website www.theshow.com.au as entries close Friday 8th May.
As per last year we (Aylesbury Lodge) are opening our gates and big barn (15 stalls in total) to those who are coming from miles away with Standies who wish to stay the night. Just let me know and we can organise a truck to leave here in the morning and take us all down and bring all our gees back home again if prefered. What we did last year and damn it was so much easier! hehe Especially given the fact they will be cracking down on floats etc being in the stabling area and dishing out fines for those who leave their floats/trucks too long..
Saltbush did it last year and we had a blast! Good ol BBQ the night of the royal and a good deal of alcohol (to unwind) after! hehe
Oh, and yep we have hot water too for the horses!

Sounds like a heap of fun! The eventing challenge sounds interesting too. I haven't seen it at the show before.

Re: Royal Adelaide Show *GULP*
Standie Showies - HOT OFF THE PRESS!
The program for the Standardbreds (being the first day -friday), will be the same as last year. So we WILL be on at 8.30am. (or at least a good likelyhood of it). She (Tara) did mention however, that they will be organising the official measurer to be there much earlier and will be told to give preference to those horses on that morning.
We are not required to pay for day stabling (where we use a stable only on the day of the event) and stallions will be given preference, unlike last year where despite paying for the things, 2 of us were put in the cattle yard! Being the first day, availablity they project shouldn't be a problem, but still cannot be guaranteed, so those with Stallions (as a matter of courtesy) should fill in their stable request form to let them know however to make things easy for planning the stabling for the day.
Also, so to avoid the issues that were presented last year in relation to people missing classes by lack of communication with mounted stewards, it looks like we will be able to enter the ring to watch the other horses. And this will be brought up in up and coming meetings with the Show Society and will be confirmed later.
I am pleased to report that they are also keen to take on Ridden classes for Standardbreds for 2010. We will still be on day one, and thanks to time restraints, full program won't be available (ie: harness classes due to lack of numbers). But they are prepared to look at it and take on a few more classes for us. Something needs to be put together and submitted to Tara prior to the end of June from the committee (I have emailed a copy of this post to a few other committee members too). However, if some kind of petition can also be put together to get signatures from members, this will also be in good stead as the more people whom are seen to want more classes, the more chance we have of getting the classes. Will put one on the two websites (SPPHASA and Aylesbury Lodge).
Might I suggest ridden walk/trot and ridden open Mare, Stallion and Gelding classes respectively (so six in total) only. Since it is indeed the Royal, the rest of the ridden classes are just irrelevant *ducks as people throw things at me*. It will also give the association an opporunity to promote standardbreds as something other than led horses and what better place to do it than the Royal.
What do you all think?

*Cheers you from the sidelines*
What? missed that LOL.
I know NOTHING about showing at the royal, I'll admit that, but I'm surprised there isn't already ridden STB classes?

to qualify a hack you need a minimus of 3 ag wins or 2 wins and 2 seconds, you submit your entries and they either accept or deny you. So basically you go to as many Ag shows as possible and win heaps, cause the min doesn't guarentee you entry!

We are going to go to do the Led TB class
!! Have only taken Levi to one ag show so we are definitely not quallied this year, but hopefully next year!!
Its a great experience at the show - thought we'd see how he reacts in the led before attempting to do the ridden!!! Think the led TB was quite a large class last time....

Re: Royal Adelaide Show *GULP*
The led TB geldings was a big class but the rest were very small from memory. Fewer and fewer entires are turning up too. Be good to see more of the standard breds too but the reason I'd assume that they didnt want people waiting for their classes in the arena is the buckets loads of stuff people would bring out with them (on breed day some people would bring out so much stuff and dump it on the outside of the trotting track - looked awful in the background of photos). Whereas people standing holding horses ready to go in looks a lot different.
HOwever I always make sure Im there to take pics of the SBs and TBs and Warmbloods - prefer the bigger breeds especially the ex racehorses and thats why they get more coverage in the report than the smaller & harness breeds.

i am planning to do the novelties... you dont need to qualify for them, but i am struggling with the entry form... if anybody is able to help me it would be much appreciated. I was thinking of taking calvin in the led sb class, but i think it is really just too hard, as i know nothing about presentation type things...
